Tietgenkollegiet featured in the magazine Arkitektur DK

This article is available in English only

The internationally distributed Danish magazine "Arkitektur DK" has dedicated an entire issue to Tietgenkollegiet. The magazine features a number of articles on the building as well as a great amount of footage, including pictures from the official opening in May and the Public Service event in August.

In the editorial by Martin Keiding, Tietgenkollgiet is praised as an architectural achievement beyond the ordinary:

“The Tietgen Dormitory is a candidate unwritten hit-list that architectural critics, curators, historians, teachers and professional architects have established over several centuries. Thorvaldsen’s Museum, The Police Headquarters in Copenhagen, Århus City Hall, Bagsværd Church … perhaps our view of these buildings changes in time, the system occasionally reorganizes their ranking, but no matter what, they continue to be a standard part of the curriculum. Also, internationally.”

The issue also features an interview with two of the leading architects, Lene Tranberg and Peter Thorsen, the latter also stressing the importance of not only looking as Tietgenkollegiet as a building, but also as a place to live:

“Today, focus is placed on appearances; on the image of the building. Whether the buildings function socially as a housing milieu or whether they add something to the city is rarely discussed anymore. These issues engaged the client strongly and thus the project development focused on much more than the form and texture of the building. Of course it is nice to experience the big attention that the appearance of the building has had. Yet to us the greatest satisfaction is to sense how the inhabitants from day one have embraced the dormitory in a way that greatly surpasses our dreams and hopes.”
