The opening of Café Tietgen and the election meeting
November 6th, 2007
The opening of Café Tietgen combined with the election meeting was a big success as over 70 residents attended the event at the bar this Tuesday. The programme featured a debate with candidates from the nine parties running for this election.
The Election Meeting
Organizer and moderator: Kenneth Praefke (Room 217)
Candidates: Laura Friberg (Det Radikale Venstre), Bent Soelberg (Venstre), Lars Gaardhøj (Socialdemokraterne), Anders Jansen (Enhedslisten), Balder Mørk Andersen (SF), Jens Lund Jensen (Kristendemokraterne), Paula Larrain (De Konservative), Peter Juel Andersen (Ny Alliance), Paw Vagtborg Karslund (Dansk Folkeparti)
Debate: After a round of opening statements from the nine candidates, the audience was encouraged to ask questions. As expected, the debate touched on subjects particularly relevant to students such as the State Education Fond as well as the education system in general, where the standards of both primary school and the universities were discussed. Another key discussion point was “Danish values”, especially in relation to the policy on integration. The question was raised whether we should be embarrassed to be Danes or if we should embrace traditional Danish values. Finally, also the health service and the War in Irak was brought up.
Café Tietgen
During the entire evening, the Café sold home-made cakes and cookies, coffee, hot chocolate, tea, and selected imported brews. After the election meeting, many people stayed to chat or play a round of backgammon or one of the other board games.
